The Strip: This strip…it was a blast to try and emulate the master. Its hard not to do Skyrim strips…really hard. I think may just change my comic to Skyrim comics. Not really, but I totally could.
Gaming: Um…Skyrim.
TV/Movies: Ok, haven’t watched much. I did watch the victorious christmas special..or as I like to call it…boner hour. I was also alerted to a new show coming out on friday called Remains. Its from the director of 30 Days of Night. Looks interesting.
Life: Scott Kurtz, one of my comic idols wrote something that worried/angered me today. Se it here:

This seems hypocritical form someone who has been an advocate for the community his whole career. I wrote him an angry email. I hope he doesn’t destroy me. He really is a big inspiration of mine, and to see him pimping out such important knowledge to the highest bidder…even if that bidder would use the information against the community…makes me feel sick.
Also..if you want to help my friend win a contest for his amazing Ghost Rider poster, go here and vote:

Let Friday wash over you..
Javis

Calvin and Hobbes?!?!
Um….correct?
Well done, Javis. Fun to see you mix ‘em up like that!
Thanks Mark…I really enjoyed doing this one.
I laughed with glee at this one. You’ve combined two very awesome things.
I can has print?
Thanks brother:) It seems the request for prints will soon drive me to make this an option:)
I read that link to Scott’s post. I think it was sarcasm for the most part. That prize is crap for all the work that cartoonists will generate to drive traffic there. So one person gains the benefit while others put in a ton of effort to drive traffic.
I agree, the prize was doodoo. But take note of the name of the blog post (yes-we’re-serious). I think he was serious. I hope he wasn’t…I sincerely home he wasn’t. Thanks for the comment Mr. Bearman, #golocal!
That’s awesome!
Thanks Caost!
Ditto to all the comments above… plus, this is going to blow up on Kotaku this Sunday. Haters will say “Ugh, more Skyrim”, I say “Yay! More Skyrim!”
Well done.
Thanks! I hope so man…I really do love making Skyrim strips…it fills me with smiles.
LOVE IT!
Thank you kindly:)
This is soon to be classic. Great job!
Thanks man, easy to make great strips when you are trying to emulating the master.
This is great
love how youve captured the calvin and hobbes vibe.. thumbs up
Much appreciated Zak! It was so much fun trying to capture his vibe:)
Hi Javis,
I’ve never seen your strip before, was bumped over here from Kotaku. May I say I really enjoyed it. Just as an aside, before I clicked over the link to read the comic I saw the little preview they gave and for some reason my brain tried to ‘predict’ what the comic would be, and for some reason (maybe because I associate Calvin & Hobbes with a sort of melancholy?) I thought it would be a homage to the last ever C&H script, except it would be about ‘knowing when to it’s time to end Skyrim’. I’m glad that wasn’t what it was, but the thought amused me and I thought I might share it with you.
Thanks for the strip, great work!
Thanks so much Destructor! I really appreciate that, genuinely, sincerely.
Best. Strip. Ever. Of course, to achieve that, you had to imitate the best, but that’s the most sincere form of flattery. You absolutely nailed the look.
Thank you sir…He is of course my idol.
In the link you posted Scott is speaking in the only language publishers understand $$$ and IMHO is trying to save them from the fall that is coming when he could just let it all go to hell and likely end up in a better postion when the dust clears (as online strips will probably see a huge spike in traffic and PvP sits pretty high on that food chain). Just my two cents excellent strip BTW.
The one part that bothered me in Scotts post the most was about how, and I am paraphrasing here, the big syndicates should secure his services before one of them pays him a retainer to keep quite and not propagate his knowledge. Seems a bit contradictory to what he has been saying his whole career.
I say this as a huge fan of all Scott does:)
Thanks for the compliment of the strip, its one of my favorites I’ve done.
Wait wait, I’m gonna let you finish, but Javis had one of the best strips of all time!
